Patrick Mahomes inspired athletes around the country when he fearlessly dashed into the end zone in his first drive since suffering a torn ACL on Dec. 14, 2025. But Tyler Seguin was not thrilled to see the Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback jump right into the fire after the long layoff. The Dallas Stars center and Mahomes underwent ACL surgery from the same doctor within a day of each other, so now fans may be wondering when the former will be ready to throw his body around the ice.

“It kind of pissed me off honestly watching him,” Seguin joked to reporters, per NHL.com's Robert Tiffin. “I was like ‘come on, man.' I got to dive in my first shift out there?”

NHL fans will hopefully cut the 2011 Stanley Cup champion some slack, especially since both men use their legs in different ways. Although Mahomes is mobile, he does not have to change direction on a dime as often as Seguin. Regardless, it is impressive to see the three-time Super Bowl MVP look so spry in his return game against the Denver Broncos. The decision to have surgery right after sustaining the injury is seemingly paying dividends.

Seguin waited roughly two weeks after going down, but he is still making progress ahead of the Stars' 2026 campaign. The Brampton, Ontario, Canada native is also more than three years older than Mahomes, so the body may not heal quite as fast. Hopefully, neither athlete has to endure such a grueling recovery period again.

The Patrick Mahomes TD run certainly generated excitement, but perhaps Tyler Seguin can accomplish the same by diving for a loose puck or scoring in his first game back. A little extra motivation is always good, right?
