The Green Bay Packers have been one of the more disappointing teams in the NFL this season. Green Bay got embarrassed by Atlanta in Week 3 and desperately needs to turn things around this weekend. But if the Packers continue to struggle, they could make the kind of NFL history that no team wants.
The Packers have just 146 rushing yards ass a team through the first three games of the season. Not only is that the worst rate in the league at 48.7 yards per game, but it puts Green Bay on pace to make NFL history in Week 4.
According to Pro Football Reference, only seven teams in the Super Bowl era have rushed for fewer than 200 yards in their first four games, per Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire. That means the Packers need to rush for at least 54 yards in Week 4 to avoid joining that infamous group.
Green Bay is not averaging that many rushing yards per game so far this season. And it won't get any easier behind a patchwork offensive line.
The Packers already lost Zach Bako-Bewele for the season. They also have multiple other offensive linemen who are dealing with injuries. As a result, the Packers added three veteran offensive lineman this week to reinforce the unit.
Article Continues BelowOne important factor in successful offensive line play is chemistry. All five players need to work together as a collective unit to have success, especially in the running game. Unfortunately, that part should be difficult for Green Bay as they improvise their o-line from week to week.
It also doesn't help that Josh Jacobs is on the commissioner's exempt list with no return date in sight. Kaleb Johnson, MarShawn Lloyd, and Chris Brooks have not been up to the task during his absence.
Hopefully Green Bay can reestablish themselves against a different floundering team in Week 4.
Next up for the Packers is a road game against the Buccaneers. That contest kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Oct. 4 from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
