Keisean Nixon heard all summer about a cornerback competition in Green Bay. After Matt LaFleur called his Week 1 outing the most complete game Nixon has played in a Packers uniform, the veteran was asked whether the performance validated his belief that he was always the starter. He did not soften the answer.

“When week one came around, where was I? Starting. That's all that f***ing matters,” Nixon told reporters. “Camp is camp. They gotta see other people get reps and stuff like that. However they felt about me during camp is irrelevant. I told you I'd be out there week one, and that's what it was.”

Nixon framed the camp chatter as noise that never reached him. “A lot of things don't affect me. I still came through the same process, still getting in the building at 6:30 in the morning, stacking days,” he said. “Again, I can't control how they feel or how they felt during training camp.”

He also showed no bitterness toward the young player pushing him. “They drafted a guy young. They want him to play, and he deserves it,” Nixon said. “So they had to see what everybody else can do, kind of figure out, they knew what I can do.”

The most telling line came when Nixon addressed the arrival of a new defensive coordinator. “New D.C., you always got to prove yourself to new people,” he said. “But I've lasted three of them, so I'm not really worried about it.”

That durability is the heart of his argument. Nixon has outlasted multiple coordinator changes in Green Bay while repeatedly being written off, first as a special teams specialist, then as a stopgap starter on the perimeter. He has answered each time by keeping the job.

The Week 1 performance came in a loss, as Green Bay fell 39-22 to the Vikings. That result gives the coaching staff plenty to fix, but Nixon's standing does not appear to be part of the list. He will keep the starting spot heading into Sunday's road trip to face the Jets.
