The Green Bay Packers have taken another hit along their offensive line. However, Jordan Love may have one small reason for optimism. Testing confirmed that starting center Sean Rhyan suffered a high ankle sprain. That is expected to sideline him for at least four weeks, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Rhyan is not currently expected to undergo tightrope surgery, though. This means a potentially more straightforward path toward recovery.

Losing Rhyan is still a significant blow for Green Bay, of course. The center’s absence forces the Packers to reshuffle their interior protection. However, avoiding surgery could be an encouraging development if Rhyan can recover without additional complications.

Love has been the engine of Green Bay’s offense through the first five games of the 2026 NFL season. He opened with a 387-yard performance against Minnesota, followed it with 312 passing yards against Atlanta. He then delivered an especially efficient showing against Chicago in Week 5. Love completed 80.6% of his passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns. Those performances have helped the Packers stay competitive despite an unsettled ground game and shifting protection.

The challenge now falls on Green Bay’s coaching staff to keep Love upright while Rhyan recovers. The Packers will need dependable communication and execution from the remaining linemen. That's particularly important as defenses look to exploit any disruption along the interior.

Rhyan’s injury is undeniably a setback, but the lack of an expected surgery offers a sliver of hope. For Love and the Packers, the priority is managing the next month without letting another offensive-line shake-up derail their momentum.
