On Saturday night, Oregon made a comeback to defeat Nebraska, 17-14. After the game, players seemed to have taken the celebration too far. Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart was arrested on DUII charges, while there were rumors of other players being involved in high-speed street racing as well.
Now another Oregon player has been cited for a traffic offense, per Ryan Clarke of The Oregonian.
Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson was cited for speeding early Sunday morning in Springfield, Oregon. According to court documents, officers cited him at 3:51 a.m., over an hour before they pulled over his teammate and charged him with DUII. Further, this seems to be separate from a different high-speed pursuit that Springfield Police are investigating, according to Deputy Chief George Crolly.
“He was not involved in the high-speed pursuit,” Crolly said Wednesday afternoon of Johnson. “We are still seeking the drivers in that case. He was stopped well before Mr. Stewart’s arrest, so he was not part of the group of cars that were in the area when Mr. Stewart was stopped.”
It had previously been reported that multiple players left an area nearby where police had discovered a vehicle traveling at high rates of speed. While the police have not named any individual Ducks players, Johnson is not suspected in that incident.
The initial Big Ten Availability report release for Oregon shows that Stewart will not be playing this weekend. He had also been out with an injury, so it is not clear if his being out is related to his arrest. Meanwhile, Johnson was not on the report and is expected to play.
Oregon visits Illinois on Saturday with kickoff at 3:00 pm E.T.
