Several college quarterbacks entered this season hoping to improve their NFL draft stock. However, inconsistent performances and questions about their readiness for the professional level have created uncertainty surrounding the position. Now, reports suggest that only two quarterbacks have consistently established themselves as potential first-round locks.

According to CBS Sports, conversations with NFL personnel staffers over the past week have identified Oregon's Dante Moore and Miami's Darian Mensah as the two quarterbacks who have consistently emerged as first-round locks.

However, the outlook is less promising for several other quarterbacks who were previously expected to headline the 2027 draft class. Texas' Arch Manning, Notre Dame's CJ Carr and Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss remain potential first-round candidates, but their evaluations have been far from conclusive.

Some NFL evaluators believe Manning and other quarterbacks in the group would benefit from another season in college rather than declaring for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Mensah and Moore have strengthened their cases through impressive performances so far. Mensah's 17 total touchdowns and zero interceptions through five games have helped elevate him from a potential first-round selection to a quarterback with legitimate top-15 pick potential.

NFL legend Robert Griffin III recently updated his list of Heisman Trophy frontrunners, placing Mensah at No. 2. Through five games, the Miami quarterback has completed 112 of 133 passes for 1,438 yards and 15 passing touchdowns without throwing an interception.

Meanwhile, Moore's production during his first full season as a starter helped establish him as one of the most highly regarded quarterbacks in college football. Through four games this season, Oregon's signal-caller has completed 69 of 99 passes for 926 yards and nine touchdowns without an interception.

Ultimately, both quarterbacks have demonstrated the qualities NFL teams value. The coming weeks could prove decisive for Moore and Mensah as franchises continue evaluating their performances and gathering information ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.
