Following Saturday's 21-10 loss to Illinois, Oregon football coach Dan Lanning has made a significant change to his staff.

In the aftermath of his team's third loss of the season and third straight game in which they scored 17 or fewer points, Lanning has fired offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, as first reported by CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Mehringer had been on the Ducks' staff since Lanning arrived in Eugene before the 2022 season. He served as the co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach from 2022 to 2025, at which point he succeeded Will Stein as the offensive playcaller when Stein became the Kentucky head coach.

“Drew has been a valued member of this staff since 2022, and I am appreciative of everything he's done for Oregon,” Lanning said in a statement [h/t On3]. “He played a tremendous role in what this program has accomplished over the last several seasons. This was a decision I felt was in the best interest of our football program, as I believe a new direction is necessary to move our offense forward. I thank Drew for his efforts and wish him all the best.”

Although the offense was not much of an issue to begin the season — the Ducks averaged 47.5 points through the first four games — things have deteriorated since Dante Moore's concussion against USC. In the three games since, Oregon has scored 42 combined points, which heavily contributed to two losses.

There is no guarantee that the scoring will return in Mehringer's absence; the Ducks play Northwestern, Ohio State, and Michigan in the next three weeks. The three teams boast some of the best defenses in the Big Ten this season.

Oregon and Northwestern are set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. on Halloween.
