On Saturday afternoon, the Michigan football program dropped to 4-3 with a narrow home loss in overtime to the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers. The Wolverines stuck around all game in this one, having some chances late in the fourth quarter to potentially come away with a win, but as has been the case so often this season, Michigan's offense wasn't able to make enough plays down the stretch to get the win.
After the game, Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham kept it real amid the ugly offensive performance.
“That was disappointing to say the least.. They're an outstanding defense, but we've got to be better than that on offense. There's no way around it. The three main issues in that football game were our inability to run the ball… our inability to score touchdowns in the red zone, and we're minus-one in the turnover battle… the offense is definitely not performing as well as the defense,” he said, per FOX College Football on X, formerly Twitter.
This week, Michigan trotted out Tommy Carr as their starting quarterback after benching Bryce Underwood last week against Penn State, but it was a predictably bad result despite the move, as Carr finished with an interception and no touchdowns on the afternoon.
Article Continues BelowMichigan has proven that it is capable of hanging in there with just about anyone this season, but they are also capable of losing to anyone thanks in large part to the ineptitude of the offense, which has been an issue for the Wolverines for the last couple of years, regardless of the head coach and quarterback.
Michigan will next hit the field on October 31 against Rutgers.
