With Lane Kiffin's departure from the Ole Miss football program to the LSU Tigers still talked about to this day, despite being two games in with his new team, there is no doubt about the ripple effects left by the coach. As the showdown between the Ole Miss football team and LSU comes underway this Saturday, the Rebels' athletic director Keith Carter kept it real on Kiffin's time with the school and his rocky exit.

Speaking to On3 Sports' Chris Low, Carter reflected on Kiffin's six years with the Rebels, as there's no denying the success that the controversial coach brought, totaling a 55-19 record and amassing four double-digit win seasons.

While Carter said that Kiffin was “good for us” during that time and emphasized the mutual relationship they had, his “problem” was trying to “manipulate the players and the coaches on his way out and work behind the scenes to hurt us.”

“We both kind of needed each other, if you will,” Carter said. “Had he just left and gone on his way and focused on LSU, we would have been disappointed. But OK, that’s what he wanted. The problem is he tried to manipulate the players and the coaches on his way out and work behind the scenes to hurt us. That’s the part Ole Miss people can’t get past and probably never will.”

Regarding any form of conversation between the athletic director and Kiffin, it hasn't been much.

“I have gotten a few text messages from him that I have not responded to, but there’s been no communication other than that,” Carter said.

At any rate, all eyes are set on Ole Miss taking on LSU on Saturday in what will be a highly anticipated reunion in Mississippi.
