Lane Kiffin is heading back to Oxford, Mississippi as he leads his No. 7 LSU Tigers to a blockbuster Week 3 matchup against the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels. The 51-year-old head coach is going into enemy territory, as he'll be facing off against his former program that feels badly burnt by his departure.

The state of Louisiana appears to be concerned about the safety of Kiffin and the LSU players, as state Governor Jeff Landry recently claimed the Tigers may need military assistance when visiting the Rebels. Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter scoffed at Landry's remarks with a response of his own on Tuesday, according to Caleb Salers of SuperTalk News.

“Honestly, I've kind of tuned out the governor of Louisiana. That's not something we're focused on here on campus,” Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said.

Asking for military assistance feels rather excessive. However, there is no doubt that the environment will be heated on Saturday, all thanks to Lane Kiffin. Ever since he departed Ole Miss for LSU right before the start of last year's College Football Playoff, the Rebels have been foaming at the mouth to take on Kiffin and his Tigers.

Kiffin has seemingly accepted the villain role, as the veteran head coach has delivered jabs at Ole Miss over the past several months. On top of that, this is one of the most highly anticipated matchups between two SEC programs that are not on good terms with one another at the moment.

With the rivalry brewing all the way up to the athletic director of Ole Miss and the Governor of Louisiana, college football fans might just be in for fireworks in Week 3.
