Oklahoma football was completely outplayed by South Carolina, suffering a 42-25 loss at Gaylord Family–Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Following the disappointing performance, head coach Brent Venables made no effort to conceal his frustration when addressing the team's struggles against the Gamecocks.
During the postgame press conference, Venables offered a brutally honest assessment of what went wrong, admitting that his team was thoroughly outmatched throughout the contest.
“Got our a** whooped tonight in every way,” the head coach said. “We're not built to overcome some of the ineptness as a football team that we displayed out there tonight, and Love played ball over our head. Did top great.
“We're in position sometimes. Played on our heels. The quarterback played fantastic. The front line played good. Running backs played well. We did play with great purpose. They did what they needed to do on defense.”
The disappointing loss was particularly frustrating for Oklahoma after the Sooners appeared to find a winning formula with their victory over Mississippi State. However, Saturday's performance exposed significant problems on both sides of the ball.
The Sooners are now 4-4 overall and 2-3 in SEC play. It appears the fanbase has also reached a breaking point following another disappointing performance.

“There ain't nothing fine. My challenge to them? No one's required to be here Monday. If you are going to be here on Monday, you better square your jaw up, tighten your screws.”
The Sooners will now look to put the disappointing loss behind them as they prepare for another challenging SEC matchup. Oklahoma travels to face Florida at Ben Griffin Stadium next Saturday in Gainesville.
