Florida State football fans made their frustration with head coach Mike Norvell evident ahead of Saturday's matchup against Clemson, as a plane flew over the stadium carrying a banner demanding his firing. The frustration among Seminoles supporters continued after the team suffered another 36-24 loss However, despite securing the victory, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was far from pleased with the airplane stunt targeting his opposing counterpart.

In the postgame press conference, Swinney openly expressed his disappointment with the public display of criticism, describing the incident as embarrassing and disrespectful toward Norvell.

“That was embarrassing what I saw above the stadium, it was embarrassing,” Swinney said. “Florida State's better than that. That's not good for these kids, it's not good for them. I get it, man, everybody's got contracts and all this type of stuff, but man, that bothered me. And they didn't even spell his name right. Then he had the freaking R in the name. I mean, it's just disrespectful.”

The banner, which flew over the stadium before kickoff, featured the message “FSU: Fire Novell” alongside the name of Florida State Board of Trustees chair Peter Collins. More frustratingly, the organizers even misspelled the Seminoles head coach's last name by omitting the letter ‘r.'

Following his criticism of the banner stunt, the Clemson head coach also took a moment to defend Norvell.

“Mike Norvell's a good man,” he added. “That's a good man, and he's a hell of a football coach. And I know Florida State's better than that. There's so many good people at this place and in this program. Man, I've always had a lot of respect for Florida State.”

The Seminoles have struggled to find consistency throughout this season, and Saturday's loss extended their losing streak to three games. The result dropped Florida State to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in ACC play.

However, Florida State's financial situation could make a potential coaching change considerably more complicated. Norvell's buyout is reportedly estimated at approximately $51 million if the university decides to part ways with him before the end of the 2026 season.
