After staying put in the early months of the offseason, the Denver Nuggets have become more active in pursuing players ahead of training camp.
The Nuggets signed Boopie Miller to an Exhibit 10 contract on Tuesday. Before that, they signed Cam Whitmore to a two-way contract. They joined DeMar DeRozan, Marvin Bagley III, and Lonnie Walker IV as some of the new faces in Denver.
But there could be another one, as the Nuggets are interested in acquiring Ryan Nembhard if he gets released by the Charlotte Hornets, according to the Stein Line's Marc Stein.
“Ryan Nembhard is expected to have multiple suitors on potential two-ways if he is indeed waived by Charlotte, sources say, with the Nuggets prime among them,” wrote Stein on his Substack.
“Nembhard had a 28-and-10 game in Denver as a rookie and a 23-assist game against Chicago (Bulls) in the season finale.”
Nembhard, Buddy Hield, and cash considerations were traded to the Hornets by the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday in exchange for forward Dorian Finney-Smith.
Article Continues BelowThe 23-year-old Nembhard was traded to the Hawks by the Dallas Mavericks in July.
Despite being undrafted, he averaged 6.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 19.5 minutes in 60 games for the Mavericks, including 27 starts.
If the Nuggets add Nembhard, he will have stiff competition for minutes in the backcourt, with DeRozan, Miller, Walker, Jamal Murray, Christian Braun, Tyus Jones, Julian Strawther, and KJ Simpson also on the roster.
Denver is looking to add more depth after losing Peyton Watson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jonas Valanciunas, and Bruce Brown.
