The latest firmly documented benchmark comes from the 2023 season.
The premiership-winning Penrith Panthers received A$1 million after defeating Brisbane Broncos in the 2023 Grand Final. Brisbane received A$400,000 as runners-up.
Reporting at the time confirmed that at least half of the A$1 million winners’ payment was allocated to the players, meaning they shared a minimum of A$500,000.
The NRL’s current salary-cap information also states that prize money can sit outside a player’s salary-cap remuneration.
For 2026, the NRL has confirmed Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights as the Grand Final participants, but its official 2026 Grand Final Week guide does not state how much either club will receive for winning or finishing second.
That means claims that the 2026 champions will definitely receive A$1 million should be treated cautiously unless the NRL separately confirms the amount.

Who actually receives the NRL Grand Final prize money?
