The North Carolina Tar Heels are now 4-4 on the season after falling 38-35 to the No. 1 Miami Hurricanes on Saturday. It was a hard-fought game that didn't end in a favorable result, and it just so happened to end an impressive 103-game streak for head coach Bill Belichick.
Throughout the 74-year-old's career, whether he's coaching in the NFL or college, Belichick had been undefeated in games where his team scored at least 35 points, according to ESPN Insights. The Week 9 loss to Miami brought Belichick's record to 103-1 in those games.
“Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick has been a Head Coach in the NFL/NCAA since 1991. Saturday vs. Miami marked the first time in his head coaching career that his team scored at least 35 points and LOST,” ESPN Insights posted on X. “He had been 103-0 entering the day.”
The last time a Belichick-led team scored 35 points came in North Carolina's 35-3 Week 1 win over the East Tennessee State Buccaneers this season. Saturday's loss marks just the third time the Tar Heels scored 35 or more points in the Bill Belichick era.
