The North Carolina football team nearly pulled off a major upset on Saturday. North Carolina bowed to Miami (FL), 38-35, in an ACC conference game. Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick gave a somewhat standard response after the loss.
“Yeah, I already talked to them. Yeah, we'll move on,” Belichick said, per The News and Observer.
Belichick's team rolled up 407 total yards of offense in the game. It would have been the biggest win of Belichick's career in Chapel Hill. Instead, his North Carolina squad ends up in the loss column.
North Carolina has now lost back-to-back games to Miami and Syracuse.
“Lot of effort, lot of toughness, lot of mental toughness, lot of competitiveness,” Belichick said, per the Associated Press. “Just disappointing to come up short here two weeks in a row.”
Miami is the no. 1 team in the country this season. The Hurricanes are now 8-0 on the year, and has found ways to win despite disappointing performances from their defense.
“In games like that, really important — like we tell our players — you just keep playing,” Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said. “Because you don’t know what play is going to turn the whole thing around. And certainly the fumble was a massive turnaround that swung the momentum in the game.”

Belichick is hoping to replicate the success he had in the NFL in college. The head coach won six Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots. He shocked the football world when he decided to give a try at college coaching, before the 2025 campaign.
North Carolina must now regroup. The Tar Heels next play UConn on Saturday.
