Former Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade from the team. Recently, Larkin expanded his list from just a handful of teams to ten. Missing from that list are some of the Canadian contenders, including the Montreal Canadiens.
The trade list has the usual suspects, such as the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, Tampa Lightning, and Dallas Stars, all teams that win a lot and do not have a state income tax. While Montreal is not on the list, which also includes the Minnesota Wild, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, New Jersey Devils, and Colorado Avalanche, the Canadiens could still be in on Larkin, according to hockey insider Pierre LeBrun, speaking on SC with Jay Onrait.
” Jay, a team that is not on that list is the Montreal Canadiens, but the Montreal Canadiens remain interested in Dylan Larkin if he ever changes his mind. And I will just say this, I think there are people in Larkin's camp that also think Montreal is a decent fit, right?” LeBrun said. “But it's not up to them. It's up to Dylan Larkin at the end of the day. So I would say let's keep an eye on, you know, if this drags out for another two months.”
Article Continues BelowLarkin expanding his trade list is a sign that he is still not willing to stay with the Red Wings and wants a change. It is possible, as the season continues and the trade deadline gets closer, that he could expand his list even further.
The Red Wings are already struggling this year. They are 3-3-3 this season, placing them in last place in the Atlantic Division. Meanwhile, as Larkin wants to be traded, Simon Edvinsson is still not with the team, as he is without a contract. Further, Red Wings defenseman Justin Faulk has been seen as a potential trade candidate. The team is also still working with an interim GM, but at some point he has to make moves so the franchise can move forward and hopefully get back to winning.
