The Montreal Canadiens are having a solid start to the season, and there could be several contributing factors. One of them is the play of their backline, as rookie goalie Jacob Fowler has stepped on the ice and produced for the team. This wasn't always the plan, as Jakub Dobes is still trying to get into a rhythm, but everything has worked out in their favor so far.

That's not the only goalie they have on standby, as Samuel Montembeault is still recovering from injury is supposed to return at some point in November. That would leave the Canadiens with a logjam at goalie, and though that should scream trade, it doesn't look like they're interested in making a deal, according to TFP’s David Pagnotta.

“They’re going to be in wait-and-see mode with this,” Pagnotta said. “Unless something fall’s into (Habs GM Kent) Hughes’ lap, I think for a while, it wouldn’t shock me if it’s the full season even, that they ride and go with all three.”

Things can change at any moment, but it feels like the Canadiens like what they have on the roster at the moment. It'll be interesting to see what things look like when Montembeault gets healthy and if the Canadiens make a change to the lineup, but it could depend on how Fowler is playing.

Dobes could also get back to the form that the Canadiens like. If at any point they feel they need an upgrade at another position, they have the assets to make a move.
