The Los Angeles Kings were able to defeat the Ottawa Senators in overtime, but they also lost one of their key players during the game. Defenseman Brandt Clarke suffered an upper-body injury in the second period after Hayden Hodgson's elbow hit his head, and he slammed into the corner boards.
Hodgson received a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct, and it was obvious that Clarke was in pain after the collision. He left the game and didn't return, and head coach Peter Laviolette didn't have an update on his injury.
That's just one of the many injuries that the Kings are dealing with right now. Forwards Mats Zuccarello, Alex Turcotte, and Kevin Fiala are all on injured reserve, but they are set to return soon. At the same time, adding Clarke to that list is not the ideal situation for the Kings, and the hope is that he doesn't have to miss extended time.
Clarke is second on the team in scoring through the first 12 games of the season, and there's no question that they need him on the ice if they want to be successful.
Article Continues BelowThe Kings have not played the best this season, as they're currently 4-6-2. They were able to get their first win of the season about a week ago, and Darcy Kuemper spoke about breaking the losing streak.
“I don't think it's unusual for teams to go on losing streaks throughout the year, but when it's at the start of the year, it gets magnified, and it feels a lot worse for us,” Kuemper said via NHL.com. “It looks a lot worse. So, nice to get a win, and now we just got to get rolling.”
