The 2026 NFL season is finally here! One jam-packed Sunday of action is in the books and there are plenty of exciting storylines to talk about. Unfortunately, injuries are a reality of the NFL with multiple popping up every single week. Those storylines deserve some attention too.

It did not take long for multiple players to get injured to start the new year. But how many of these injuries will linger throughout the regular season?

These are some of the most important injuries from Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.

Vikings QB Kyler Murray (concussion)

Murray suffered a concussion on Sunday after taking a cheap shot while sliding after scrambling out of the pocket. He did not return to the game.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport gave a somewhat positive injury update on Murray on Monday morning. The veteran quarterback was in positive spirits in the locker room after Sunday's big Week 1 win. That said, it is difficult to know how Murray will fare advancing through the league's concussion protocol.

“But every player recovers from a concussion differently, and every concussion is different, so we just do not know as of right now how quickly Kyler Murray is going to progress in the NFL's concussion protocol,” Rapoport wrote.

The good news for Minnesota is that Carson Wentz looked pretty solid playing in relief of Murray. He went 12-of-19 for 133 passing yards with three touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

Vikings fans should keep their eyes peeled for updates on Murray's status over the next few weeks.

Ravens WR Zay Flowers (hamstring)

Flowers put on a show during his limited action against the Colts. The shifty wide receiver logged five receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown on just six targets. What's more impressive is that he only played for part of the first half.

Baltimore's star wideout suffered a hamstring injury during the second quarter. It was the same hamstring that bothered Flowers earlier this summer during training camp. That created an initial sense of concern around the injury.

Fortunately, it looks like Flowers should be okay. Early reports indicate that Flowers' injury is not considered serious. Baltimore will still have Flowers undergo an MRI, but the early outlook is quite promising.

The Ravens proved they didn't need Flowers in the second half, leaning hard on Derrick Henry instead. Still, it would be great news if he could returning as soon as possible.

In other Ravens injury news, rookie Ja'Kobi Lane suffered a fractured wrist and will miss several weeks while he recovers. Meanwhile, cornerback T.J. Tampa suffered a knee injury and was ruled out.

Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (chest)

McConkey played well during his season opener, logging five receptions for 82 receiving yards and a touchdown. However McConkey took a vicious hit at the end of the third quarter.

He suffered a chest injury and was initially designated as questionable to return. However, McConkey did not get back on the field during the fourth quarter.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh did not give an injury update on McConkey after the game. LA will want McConkey back for next week's matchup against Las Vegas.

Hopefully LA reveals more information about McConkey's status over the next few days.

In other Chargers injury news, KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring) and Elijah Molden (hamstring) also left Sunday's game and did not return.

Cooper did not receive much action during his first NFL game. But the rookie did haul in his only target for a 30-yard completion, which must have felt incredible.

Unfortunately, Cooper left the game with an ankle injury and did not return. The rookie had X-rays on his ankle that were negative, revealing he is dealing with a sprain. New York will have Cooper get an MRI to determine the severity of the sprain.

The Jets also lost veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to a groin injury during Week 1. He did not return to the game. Fortunately, New York can lean on Malachi Moore and Andre Cisco if Fitzpatrick misses any significant time.

Commanders LB Frankie Luvu (groin)

The Commanders saw a pair of important players go down with injuries during their Week 1 loss.

Luvu suffered a groin injury against the Eagles and did not return. The silver lining is that his teammate Sonny Styles looked incredible in his debut, which kept the Commanders' defense on track. Still, an extended injury for Luvu would still be a big problem for Washington.

Washington also lost tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo (hamstring) and safety Tyler Owens (ankle), both of whom also did not return.

Okonkwo was supposed to play a big role for the Commanders in 2026. Hopefully he can get healthy quickly to give Jayden Daniels another productive pass catcher.

Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring)

Overshown is not a player who Cowboys fans want to see on the injury report.

The young linebacker has already dealt with multiple ACL injuries throughout his career. Now he is dealing with a hamstring issue following Week 1.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said after the game that Dallas did not yet know the severity of Overshown's injury. Further details on that injury should become available over the next few days as the Cowboys begin preparing for Week 2.

Meanwhile, safety Malik Hooker suffered what looked like a fractured forearm in the season opener. Schottenheimer explained that Hooker needs to undergo further testing to understand the severity of the injury.

This is not a great way for Dallas to start the 2026 season.
