To say that fans were not amused by the rendition of the national anthem by Train vocalist Pat Monahan before Monday's game between the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara would be a massive understatement.

Monahan, joined by his son, Rock, performed the Star-Spangled Banner, but their performance just didn't land well with a lot of people, as fans have taken their issue with it to social media.

Maybe THE worst national anthem I’ve ever heard. Good grief. Who booked this? You’re FIRED! #MNF #NFLonABC #Train #NationalAnthem #fail #ABC pic.twitter.com/5SeK3r8SCa

“National Anthem performed for Washington Commanders v 49ers game just now was actually worse than the mariachi band and Rosanne Barr combined,” a fan said.

“If you’re going to use musical accompaniment for the National Anthem at least play the base chords instead of the vocal melody,” a social media user on X shared.

“MNF National Anthem SUCKED. That Train was a disgrace and a DISASTER. WTF- Corey Feldman would have done a better job,” another one commented.

“Now we know what a derailed Train sounds like as it sings the National Anthem. Holy s**t that was bad,” a different fan said.

“Damn…that performance by Train of the national anthem on Monday Night Football absolutely SUCKED,” another comment read.

Fortunately for those fans, they had to hear Monahan's version of the national anthem just once before finally watching Week 6's edition of Monday Night Football.

The 49ers entered Monday looking to preserve their unblemished record, having won all five of their assignments to start the season. The Commanders, on the other hand, arrived in Santa Clara with a 1-3-1 record and coming off a 27-27 tie with the New York Giants in Week 5.
