On Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers suffered an embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home to open up their 2026 NFL season with a whimper. The Chargers entered this game expected to steamroll a lesser opponent in front of their home fans, but instead, the team is now facing major questions as the campaign continues.

Now, the new playoff odds for this season have been revealed by the BetOnline Sportsbook, and Los Angeles currently has +100 odds to miss the postseason altogether, making that the more likely of the two options.

It's certainly not where Chargers fans thought they'd be less than 24 hours into a season that was filled with high hopes and expectations after some of the moves the team made this offseason. Arguably the biggest of those was bringing in former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to be the new offensive coordinator and hopefully unlock new levels to star quarterback Justin Herbert's game.

There wasn't much evidence of that on Sunday afternoon, as Herbert struggled to get into any kind of rhythm, only consistently connecting with wide receiver Ladd McConkey throughout the afternoon. Herbert later threw an ugly interception on a poor decision that essentially ended his team's chances of a comeback.

Of course, general wisdom would dictate that this is only Week 1 and that it's far too early to start thinking playoffs, but after next week's game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chargers will enter a true gauntlet of their schedule featuring several teams who fancy themselves as Super Bowl contenders this season.

Needless to say, next week's clash with Las Vegas is as close to a must-win as you can get in Week 2.
