Western Michigan got hosed during their season-opening game against Michigan, and everyone knows it.
The NCAAâÂÂs FBS Oversight Committee knows it, too.
Via Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports, the NCAA released a statement on Wednesday acknowledging that the replay process reached the wrong result.
âÂÂThe committee consulted with national officiating leadership regarding the instant replay protocols,â the statement explained. âÂÂBased on that information, the committee agreed that the instant replay protocols were not followed in the contestâÂÂs second-to-last play. Had the protocols been followed, the outcome of the game would have been different.âÂÂ
However, the committee also said that the rules do not prevent an appeal of the outcome of any game, once the game is declared to be ended.
While the statement wonâÂÂt change the official outcome, it reinforces the unofficial belief that Western Michigan won the game. Because Western Michigan did win the game.
