With the Washington Nationals in the final stretch of the 2026 season, the team is looking to lock up a key piece of the starting pitching rotation in Curt Cavalli. As Cavalli has reached some new heights with the Nationals this season, he looks to be rewarded with a contract extension before the 2026 season wraps up.

According to Robert Murray of Fansided, Cavalli and Washington “are close on a contract extension,” and while it is not done yet, “there is optimism” that it will be completed.

“Right-hander Cade Cavalli and the Washington Nationals are close on a contract extension, sources say. A deal is not done, but there is optimism about a new contract to keep the 28-year-old in Washington going forward,” Murray wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
