As the Netflix premiere of the sequel series to A Different World comes out on Thursday, new details are emerging about the role that the older cast will play on the series, while the sequel series is centered around Deborah Wayne and her cast of friends as they embark on their freshman year. A few fan favorites from the original series will have central roles, shaping the new generation of Filmore students.
Per an feature by Keith Murray, Winifred Freddie Brooks, and Kimberly Reese (now a doctor), will be professors at Hillman College.

Perhaps the most interesting tidbit in Murray's feature is that Dwayne Wayne, Whitley Gilbert, and Lena (played by Jada Pinkett Smith) will be involved in a love triangle.

Another revelation that provides some clarity to the storyline between Ron and his son Shaquille is that, per information gathered by TRIB Live, Shaquille's mother and Ron's wife is Jaclyn, who was played by Halle Berry as a guest star in the original series. Jaclyn passed away in the years following the original series, after the birth of Shaquille.
Jaclyn's passing ultimately brings Deborah and Shaquille closer together through friendship, which ultimately emerges into a budding romance that defines a large part of their freshman year.
The 10-episode first season of Netflix's A Different World wraps on the platform on Thursday.
