Bryce Underwood didn't have his best day, struggling against the stout Minnesota defense as the Michigan Wolverines lost 20-14 to the Golden Gophers on Saturday afternoon.
Underwood is going through the second season of his collegiate career with the Wolverines. He has gone through criticism about his performances, presenting bigger expectations and responsibilities for the quarterback to persevere through.
Underwood has had his moments to start the season, but fell down to earth against the Minnesota defense. He only completed 10 out of 21 passes for 101 yards and two interceptions while rushing 10 times for 20 yards. It didn't take long for media people and football fans to be critical of his struggles.
“Firing on a cylinder today,” the Underdog CFB account wrote.
“Bryce Underwood is not a good quarterback and never will be at Michigan,” reporter Trevor Woods said.
“Bryce Underwood just isn’t it. Brutal performance by the Michigan offense,” Yahoo sports writer Dan Wolken stated.
“Kyle Whittingham has to make a QB change at this point. Bryce Underwood finishes 10-of-21 for 101 yards and two INTs. And it looked worse than that. So many overthrows,” The Athletic's Stewart Mandel said.

How Bryce Underwood, Michigan played against Minnesota
It was a day to forget for Bryce Underwood and Michigan, falling on the road to Minnesota in Week 5.
Michigan remains winless in conference action, falling to 0-2 in its Big Ten matchups this season. They scored all of their 14 points in the second quarter, failing to do the same in the other periods as Minnesota took full advantage.
Jordan Marshall was a bright spot in the run game, racking up 10 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. Nathaniel Staehling shined on defense making an interception then returning it to the end zone for the 79-yard touchdown.
The Wolverines will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being at home. They are on a bye next week before resuming action by hosting the Penn State Nittany Lions in Week 7 as kickoff commences on Oct. 17.
