The No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide gets the win over the No. 16 Mississippi State on Saturday with a big 56-23 victory. It was a solid outing for the program, but signal-caller Keelon Russell stole the show once again. He made several throws that will likely leave NFL scouts in awe.
Sometimes it's just one throw that may catch the attention of the professional level. But Alabama's sophomore quarterback kept making big-time throws against a tough opponent in a hectic environment. Many talking heads and media members in college football came away impressed with Russell on Saturday.
“Holy smokes, some of these Keelon Russell throws are incredible,” Andy Staples of On3 Sports said.
The Crimson Tide star showed off his ability to manipulate the pocket and keep his eyes downfield on one play, which resulted in a beautiful back shoulder throw right on target for a huge first down to keep the drive going. Even the announcers for the game were mesmerized by the play.

His red zone presence was top-notch against Mississippi State. On a third-and-goal play, Russell threw a strike toward the end zone with his wide receiver, Rico Scott, in a one-on-one matchup. The ball was thrown to where only Scott could get it, giving Alabama a 35-17 lead midway through the third quarter.

Keelon Russell threw another dart to Scott, again putting the ball exactly where only his target can make the catch. It was great coverage too, but the ball placement made it nearly impossible to defend the throw. Plus, Scott pulled off an amazing catch on this play, too.

Through five games played so far this season as Alabama's starting quarterback, the Texas native has accumulated 1,414 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns while completing 71.2% of his pass attempts. He's also totaled 184 rushing yards and four more scores on the ground.
Keelon Russell is not eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft. So, while scouts might be impressed with his play this year, he won't become eligible until the 2028 draft. In the meantime, Russell appears to have a chance to at least compete for the Heisman Trophy if he continues playing at this level.
