The Green Bay Packers are 1-1 on the season after earning a 20-17 overtime win over the New York Jets in Week 2. While the club got back in the win column, things haven't quite been going smoothly offensively. One key issue has been third downs, and head coach Matt LaFleur already seems tired of the problems.
The 46-year-old is not happy with his team owning a 19.1% third-down conversion rate through two games, which is good for worst in the NFL. When asked about it, LaFleur shared a repulsed response, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
“It's disgusting,” LaFleur said about the third-down issues. “It's almost third-and-10 every time.”
On top of the alarming third-down conversion rate in Green Bay, the Packers have been incredibly sloppy to begin the season. The team has committed 26 penalties, leading to 231 penalty yards. They've had 32 flags thrown on them so far, and the club leads the league in each of those three named categories.
Matt LaFleur would likely prefer the troubles to resolve quickly. Especially considering the Packers participate in a competitive NFC North division. Luckily, it's a long season, and Green Bay has plenty of time to make the necessary adjustments.
But the issues may bleed into Week 3, as the team has a short week. The Packers are scheduled to take on the Atlanta Falcons for a “Thursday Night Football” matchup. That only gives LaFleur three days to get his team prepared for a struggling Falcons team.
Either way, look for the franchise to lean on Jordan Love moving forward. He's been decent so far this year, throwing for 532 yards and four touchdowns while completing 52.1% of his pass attempts.
