The Premier League released a lengthy statement on Tuesday that Manchester City had been found guilty on “all” charges by an independent commission. Now, City has just three days to appeal these charges before they face sanctions that could range from a slap on the wrist to expulsion from the Premier League.

“Manchester City have until Friday to lodge an appeal against the guilty verdict handed down in their case with the Premier League and have stated publicly they intend to do so,” ESPN's Rob Dawson reported Wednesday.

These charges stem from Manchester City's financial dealings from 2009 to 2018, where the commission decided that they inappropriately funneled money to their club through sponsorship deals with companies owned by the team's owner, Sheik Mansour of Abu Dhabi. This allowed them to sign star players while staying within the EPL and UEFA's financial regulations.

City has definitively stated that they are not guilty of these charges.

“The whole Premier League case against us is based on a single false accusation, That the owner's personal money was somehow and secretly put into the club via some sponsors from Abu Dhabi. This is just not true,” Man City's CEO Ferran Soriano said, per ESPN. “Our lawyers will now file an appeal that sets out that the opinion contains clear material errors of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.”

During the 2023-24 season, Everton was deducted 8 points in the Premier League standings for one violation of the EPL's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). If the guilty verdict stands, the Man City penalty could be significantly harsher.
