The LSU football program is currently gearing up for its upcoming game against the Ole Miss Rebels on the road. This game will mark the return of Lane Kiffin to face his former team, which he abandoned prior to their playoff run last season.

Recently, Kiffin raised eyebrows by designating quarterback Sam Leavitt as doubtful for the Ole Miss game due to injury, and now, the team has gotten the latest update on the quarterback's status.

“An update on LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt: Took part in LSU’s walkthrough practice session today, sources tell (CBS Sports),” reported Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Many were skeptical about the original doubtful designation for Leavitt considering Kiffin's history of shrouding his players' status in as much doubt as possible leading up to game time, only to then see them take the field, as was the case last year on numerous occasions with Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

Leavitt got off to a hot start to the year by dismantling the Clemson Tigers' defense in Week 1, but he had a much shakier performance last week against Louisiana Tech, tossing three interceptions in the first half alone before the Tigers finally pulled away in the second half.

While Ole Miss isn't necessarily known for its defense, this will still present a major test for Leavitt and LSU, especially since they will be playing in front of what is sure to be a hostile environment on the road.

In any case, kickoff between Ole Miss and LSU is set for Saturday evening at 7:30 pm ET from Oxford.
