Even E Street Band guitarist and New York Giants fan Little Steven Van Zandt was impressed by third-string Chicago Bears quarterback Case Keenum, who beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
He took to X, formerly Twitter, during the game to seemingly praise Keenum (whom he didn't name), saying, “This third-string quarterback I've never heard of is blowing my mind. He's better than at least half of the first-string quarterbacks in the league.”
His praise didn't stop there; he joked that the Giants “wish” they had Keenum after losing Jaxson Dart for the year with a knee injury.
Bears' Case Keenum led Chicago to an upset vs. the Eagles
In his first start in three years, Keenum led the Bears to an upset over the Eagles. The Bears were missing starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2.
It didn't matter that Keenum hadn't started a game in years; he looked great. He completed 24 of 34 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.
The Bears' defense was the story of the game, holding the Eagles' offense in check. Jalen Hurts was taken out of the game for a moment after being hit on the sideline. He finished the game with just 153 passing yards. While he rushed for a touchdown, he threw an interception. Backup quarterback Andy Dalton also threw an interception in the red zone.
If Williams continues to miss games, expect Keenum to keep being the Bears' starter. He previously had a breakout year with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017, throwing for over 3,500 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He led the Vikings to a 13-3 record in the regular season. They made it to the NFC Championship, losing to the Eagles. It appears Keenum has the Eagles' number in his matchups against them.
