The status of Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs for their Week 8 meeting with the Minnesota Vikings got a concerning update on Wednesday, when he was listed with a DNP (Did Not Participate) label.

Apparently, even Gibbs was surprised that he got an injury designation.

“I was confused,” the former Alabama Crimson Tide star running back said, via Brad Galli of The Brad Galli Show. “I just got dinged up a little bit, like a little shoulder thing but I'm good.”

Gibbs explained that he got hurt during a play on third down in Week 7's meeting with the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, but said he didn't suffer anything serious.

In any case, Gibbs was a full participant in Thursday's practice, allaying any fears about him potentially missing the game against the Vikings at home this coming Sunday.

The 24-year-old Gibbs has been on a roll this season, especially of late. After torching the Arizona Cardinals for 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in Week 5's 45-21 Detroit win, he burned rubber for 116 rushing yards on 29 carries in the Lions' 20-17 victory over Green Bay.

The Vikings have a top-10 defense against the run, as they are allowing 97.8 rushing yards per outing, but Gibbs can still be expected to deliver the goods for Detroit's offense given his current form.

Gibbs is on pace to record his third straight 1,000-yard season with 620 rushing yards to go along with seven touchdowns to date in the 2026 campaign.
