Lions’ Brian Branch looking good for Dolphins game after injury upgrade

Brian Branch has made strides in his recovery from injury as he and the Detroit Lions gear up for their road matchup in Week 9 of the 2026 NFL season.

Branch is halfway through the fourth season of his career in the league with the Lions. He stands out as one of the best safeties in the league, making big plays in the secondary to disrupt opposing offenses.

However, Branch has had a rough start to 2026. He tore his Achilles in the 2025 campaign, which kept him on the sidelines until he made his return to the field against the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 25 this season.

Following Detroit's recent contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 1, Branch dealt with concussion-like symptoms. He had limited activity during Wednesday's practice, but he took the next step by fully practicing on Thursday. He and nine other Detroit players landed on the injury report, per reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques.

What lies ahead for Brian Branch, Lions

The Lions need all the playmakers they can get on the defensive side of the ball. Brian Branch plays a crucial role in their success on that side of the field, needing his presence to win big games.

Branch has been solid throughout his return from Achilles rehab. Two games into the season, he has recorded seven tackles, one pass deflection and an interception.

Detroit has a 5-2 record this season, sitting at third place in the NFC North Division standings. They are above the Green Bay Packers while trailing the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings. In terms of the conference standings, they are sixth place. They lead over the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams while being under the Bears and the Carolina Panthers.

The Jets will continue preparations for their upcoming matchup this weekend, being on the road. They take on the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 as kickoff commences on Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. ET.
