The Los Angeles Lakers are set to play the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night. Luka Doncic is listed on the injury report as questionable due to lower back tightness after scoring 53 points in LA's 124-118 win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. Walker Kessler is also on the NBA injury report, but he's listed as available as he deals with a left finger splint.
Kessler has enjoyed a big start to his Lakers career. After spending his first four seasons in the NBA with the Utah Jazz, Kessler is now playing a crucial role for an LA team that has championship aspirations. He's averaged 14.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks through his first 10 games of the new campaign. His 71.6 field goal percentage leads the league.
Kessler and Doncic have quickly built chemistry with one another. Luka often does a tremendous job of getting the big men he plays with involved. Kessler deserves credit, however, as he's given the Lakers quality production at the center position.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, Kessler is expected to play on Sunday. Doncic, however, is questionable. Updates on his injury status will be provided ahead of tip-off.
The Lakers and Pistons have both started the season strong. LA is 8-2 and in first place in the Western Conference. The Lakers are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for the best record in the league.
Article Continues BelowThe Pistons' 6-2 record is good for third place in the Eastern Conference. Detroit will be looking to get back on track after losing to Philadelphia by a final score of 112-106 on Wednesday.
Tip-off for the Lakers-Pistons game in Detroit is scheduled for 6 PM ET on Sunday night.
