Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves couldn't resist poking fun at Luka Doncic after his teammate buried a spectacular half-court shot against the Golden State Warriors on Opening Night.
Instead of praising the difficult attempt, Reaves jokingly criticized Doncic's decision-making even though the shot went in.
“Terrible shot. There was 3.3 seconds left when he caught it. He could have got to at least 35 feet but… I didn't want to shoot it. It was a good shot I guess,” Reaves said after the game.
The playful criticism added another entertaining moment to a night when Doncic had already made his presence felt.
Doncic, meanwhile, revealed that an exchange with Yaxel Lendeborg provided extra motivation before his remarkable attempt.
“He was talking crazy. I knew that was going before I got it in my hands. I work on those,” Doncic said while discussing the half court shot.
The Lakers star also explained how opponents talking trash can bring out a different side of his competitive personality.
“Everybody knows when somebody starts talking, you got a different me. So that was it,” Doncic said about his interaction with Lendeborg.
While Reaves' comments were clearly lighthearted, the exchange highlighted the chemistry between the Lakers teammates.
