The Los Angeles Lakers have enjoyed a hot start to the season, currently sitting at 7-2 after a recent road win over the Sacramento Kings. Luka Doncic has been on an absolute heater of late, dropping 40 on the Kings on Wednesday night in what was not his first explosive scoring game of the year.
In fact, Doncic's hot start to the season has put him in some rarefied air with one of the game's all-time greats.
“Luka Dončić is the first player since Michael Jordan in 1988 to score 300+ points through his first eight games of the season. Dončić has scored 308 total points while shooting 49.5% from the field and 43.1% from three-point range,” reported NBA Communications on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, Doncic has been torching the competition so far this year, hitting his usual barrage of step-back triples, tough finishes at the rim, and a hefty serving of free throws en route to dominating the league's scoring charts thus far.
Many suspected that Doncic's already astronomical scoring would take another bump this year after the departure of LeBron James in free agency, and that has definitely been the case so far.
Meanwhile, the Lakers haven't exactly faced the stiffest competition this year, but they have been taking care of business against their slate of lesser opponents, and Austin Reaves is also starting to round into form after a relatively quiet start to the year.
Article Continues BelowIt will be interesting to see if Doncic can continue this historic pace throughout the season, or if his scoring will dip slightly as things go on.
In any case, the Lakers will next hit the floor on Friday evening at home against the Portland Trail Blazers in an NBA Cup game.
