The Philadelphia Phillies may have taken a 3-0 win over the New York Mets on Thursday, which is a big win as far as cementing their place in the postseason goes, but they know that they're a few ways away from being at their best. In particular, their offense hasn't been as explosive in September as it was in August. After scoring the third-most runs in MLB in August (147, behind just the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs), they have scored the ninth-fewest runs in September, with just 60 through 15 games.

The important thing is that they're still earning wins to avoid a major collapse. While a 7-8 record is far from the best, the Phillies are still five games above the NL Wild Card cutoff line, which is a solid cushion to have with just nine games remaining in the regular season.

But for Phillies star Kyle Schwarber, who went hitless on Thursday but drew a walk, the blueprint to returning to the success they had on offense back in August is clear.

“We know there's gonna be ebbs and flows of the year and we're down to crunch time. We're focusing on the things we're good at, the things we do really well. Just stay the course on those. We know the group that we have. We know the capabilities that we have in continuing to grind guys out. Continuing to pass the baton and trust the guy behind you and play our style of game and execute that,” Schwarber told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

“If we focus on those things, good things will happen.”

The Phillies do have quality hitters up and down the roster. And while their offense may be ebbing in September, they can at least hold on to the hope that they flow and positively regress to the mean come October, when the games matter the most in pursuit of a World Series title.
