The New York Knicks came under fire recently when it was revealed that several employees had been tricked into clicking on a phishing scam with the lure of receiving a championship ring from the team’s recent title run. The employees were then forced to enroll in a mandated cybersecurity training course. Now, it seems like after enough public outcry, the Knicks admitted that using such a ruse for cybersecurity training was wrong and that the team has plans to give out additional championship rings to certain employees, as per Stefan Bondy of The New York Post.

“The company is gifting more than 275 championship rings and jewelry to players, coaches, employees and other members of the Knicks family, worth more than $3.7 million, in recognition of their contributions and celebrating this achievement,” and MSG spokesperson said via Bondy.

The Knicks are coming off their first championship in over 50 years. The last time the franchise won an NBA title was in 1973.

In addition to the controversy regarding the Knicks employees, the team’s assistant coaches did not receive their championship rings as well. However, the coaching staff will receive their rings at some point.

With the 2026-27 NBA season now underway, the Knicks are hoping to defend their title. The majority of last season’s roster is back, with the glaring exception of backup big man Mitchell Robinson who left for the Boston Celtics via free agency.

The Knicks started off the year at 0-1, dropping their opening-night game to the new-look Philadelphia 76ers, 106-100. Their next game is Friday on the road against the Boston Celtics.
