Kansas State basketball ended the Jerome Tang era in rough fashion during the offseason. Which now includes the Wildcats putting together a $12 million settlement with Tang. Now KSU athletic director Gene Taylor spoke out about the move Monday.

ESPN college basketball insider Pete Thamel shared a succinct statement via Taylor.

“This settlement allows both parties to move forward on agreed terms,” Thamel posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

So KSU canned Tang nearly seven months ago, with the move deemed a firing for cause. Yet Tang was owed $18.7 million per his contract with the Big 12 University. And that deal was originally set to run through the 2030-2031 season.

The Wildcats and Taylor still orchestrated the move to fire Tang, largely due to the late season collapse. Kansas State went 10-15 the rest of the way and missed out on landing a bid inside March Madness.

Tang, though, ruffled some feathers with the fan base and the school following some widely critical remarks he made after an embarrassing 91-62 loss to Cincinnati in conference play. Saying how the KSU players “did not deserve to wear this uniform” while also repeatedly saying how “embarrassed” he was by the performance.

He even vowed that most of the players from last year's roster wouldn't return. Those comments eventually led to Tang's falling out with the university.

Tang added another twist to this case: Hiring the attorneys who represented Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss amid his NCAA eligibility case. Now KSU and Tang have moved forward from its exit.
