The Los Angeles Chargers dropped to a stunning 0-3 mark Sunday. Which even included Justin Herbert throwing a “meatball sub” for an interception as Tom Brady described in the loss to the Buffalo Bills.
But now Herbert sounds repetitive after defeats. Including delivering this answer postgame via Chargers insider Kris Rhim when asked why the offense, as a whole, isn't executing.
“That's a great question,” Herbert began. “That's something that we have to figure out. And we're going to do our best to keep listening to our coaching. Plus do everything we can to stick together and understand that it's a long season and we gotta turn our stuff around.”
Herbert added: “So whatever the reason is, we have to find a way to fix it.”
But once again, Herbert is drawing criticism for both his words and play. Rhim mentioned online that Herbert holds this mark on throws that stretch past 20 yards of air: Only 1-of-12 with three interceptions.
Brady himself called out Herbert during the “meatball sub” reference in the Fox game. He added how Herbert displayed a “poor awareness and poor decision” moment.
Herbert now has 401 passing yards through the first three games, meaning he's yet to deliver a 300-yard game. Worse is he's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns at four and three, respectively.
The past All-Pro quarterback finished 20-of-34 for 226 yards only and tossed just one touchdown. CJ Gardner-Johnson picked off his pass in the end zone. Now Herbert, head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers rank as one of the league's biggest disappointments. But Herbert continues to sound like a broken record with his postgame words.
