Duke head basketball coach Jon Scheyer is reaffirming his commitment to the team. In the offseason, Scheyer was rumored to be a candidate for the Dallas Mavericks head coaching job. The job ultimately went to the former Michigan head coach Dusty May. In an interview on the Glue Guys Podcast, Scheyer says that he wants to “see it through” when it comes to his tenure with the Blue Devils

“I wouldn’t be able to live with myself, not seeing this thing through,” Scheyer said. “I mean, that’s just the bottom line. And I’m at a one-of-one place where not often you get your dream job when you’re 33.”

Scotto played at Duke for four seasons from 2006 to 2010 before embarking on his professional basketball career. He joined the Duke coaching staff under legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski as an assistant from 2014 to 2018, then became associate head coach from 2018 to 2022. When Krzyzewski stepped away from coaching and retired, Scotto became the team's head coach.

While he's happy with where the team has gone, he ultimately believes they can do more.

“I’m really proud of the start we’ve gone off to and the continuation of what has been built here,” Scheyer continued. “But I think we got so much left to do. I just think we have so much left to accomplish. This is where my family is. This is home for me.”

Duke had an impressive 2025-2026 season, going 35-3 and 17-1 in conference. They ultimately became ACC champions after beating Virginia 74-70. They then had a phenomenal run through the March Madness tournament before ultimately suffering a narrow 73-72 loss to UConn in the Elite Eight.
