The Dallas Cowboys will be facing the Houston Texans in Week 4, and there's a chance they could be getting their new addition on the field for the matchup. Joey Porter Jr., who the Cowboys traded for just a few days ago, hasn't played a game this season because of a back injury, but there's optimism he suits up on Sunday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
“Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said CB Joey Porter Jr. is trending in the right direction to possibly play Sunday, but they need to see how he gets through today,” Machota wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Porter has been doing everything he can to get back on the field, even when he was still with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There may have been some more things that were holding him back from playing with the Steelers, one being that they didn't want to give him an extension this season. Nonetheless, the Cowboys plan on Porter playing out his rookie contract, and they'll most likely extend him at the end of the season.
Article Continues BelowThis season will be a chance for Porter to show that he's one of the better cornerbacks in the league, and he may get paid like it when it's all said and done. For the Cowboys, they believe he can be a game-changer for their secondary, as they've been up and down to start the season.
The Cowboys made many changes to their defense coming into the season after the rough year they had in 2025, and the hope is that they can turn things around on that side of the ball. Porter is just one of the few answers, but everyone else will have to step up.
It'll be interesting to see if Porter ends up playing against the Texans, and if he'll be a full go or on a snap count in his first game back.
