Joey Porter Jr. is now a Dallas Cowboys cornerback after the Pittsburgh Steelers traded him to Jerry Jones' team. The move brought an end to the months-long contract standoff between the talented defensive back and his former team. Porter Jr. recently revealed the moment he found out he was heading to Dallas.

Porter Jr. recently appeared on The White House w/ Mike Irvin and detailed how he first learned about the unexpected trade.

“I was at the movies when I got the call. It was late at night, like 11:30. I was chilling, and my GM, the Steelers GM, called me and he told me exactly the play and what was going to happen following. Man, it was a smile on my face,” Porter Jr. said.

The 26-year-old cornerback had been seeking a long-term extension from the Steelers. However, instead of giving him the extension, the team traded him. Dallas sent a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for Porter.

The trade sent Porter Jr. to the Dallas team after he spent the entirety of his NFL career in Pittsburgh. Despite leaving the organization where he began his professional career, the cornerback expressed genuine excitement about starting a new chapter with the Cowboys.

“It was a bittersweet moment, but I was just so excited to be a Dallas Cowboy and get on that and head over and talk to all the Joneses and the coaches. So man, it was a blessing.”

The next chapter of Porter Jr.'s NFL career will now unfold in Dallas. The Cowboys are hoping the young cornerback can quickly become an important piece of a defense that needs to improve, while Porter gets an opportunity to establish himself in a new environment.
