Head coach Joe Mazzulla delivered a message to the Boston Celtics amidst their preparation for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.
Mazzulla is gearing up for the fifth season of his head coaching career with the Celtics. He led the team to the championship in 2024 and won Coach of the Year last season, but he looks to prove doubters wrong after underwhelming results in the postseason.
Mazzulla spoke with reporters throughout training camp, per reporter Noa Dalzell. With regard to how the team is getting ready for the season, the head coach had a disclaimer for them while they enjoy the positive vibes of training camp.
“Every team you lead is the most together team right now. Because we haven't traveled. No one's gotten benched. No one's been on a losing streak. No one's gotten blamed in the media. No one's had to go stand in the corner for 10 minutes and not get the ball. So, you learn those things as the season goes on and you just learn how to work through those things together,” Mazzulla said.
“And you can't simulate those. It just comes with time. And so, right now I would say all 30 teams fell great about themselves, and we got to wait till adversity hits. And adversity is even a strong word. There's nothing really adverse about playing in the NBA. But we got to wait until stuff doesn't go your way, and then you got to figure out who we are and how we're going to be at out best.”

The Celtics start a new era after trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George. This paves the way for Jayson Tatum to be the top star, while surrounding him with a quality supporting cast capable of being in serious playoff contention.
