The Boston Celtics are off to a bad start to their 2026-27 NBA season, but from an individual standpoint, Paul George could not have it much better with his debut for his new team.
George was simply sensational on Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. He reminded Celtics fans and everyone why he is a nine-time NBA All-Star and made a strong statement about still being an elite scorer despite this being his 17th season in the league — not to mention being 36 years old.
Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla also had great things to say about George following the Celtics' 121-113 loss at the hands of Cade Cunningham and the Pistons.
“The game found him,” Mazzulla said when asked during a postgame press conference about what he saw in George (via NBA TV).
“He made some great reads throughout the game. It was good that he was able to find advantages for himself and for others and be aggressive, and he just has to continue that,” added Mazzulla.
George had his way against Detroit's defense, scoring 38 points and showing off his range and ability to create buckets on his own.

George isn't going to drop 38 points on an nightly basis for Boston, but he showed the Celtics that he can still carry an offense on any given night.
