Florida State football kicked off November by creating the latest high-profile coaching opening. Mike Norvell is out following seven seasons and compiling a 41-39 record. Now former Seminoles Jimbo Fisher enters the picture.
Because he's openly interested in returning to Tallahassee, that's why. His name surfaced even before Clemson trounced FSU on Saturday in sealing Norvell's fate.
But will FSU pivot back to the last coach who guided the ‘Noles to their last national title win?
Insider reveals interest between Jimbo Fisher, Florida State

College football insider for On3/Rivals Pete Nakos revealed the early intel involving the FSU opening, starting with Fisher.
“The former Florida State head coach has been lobbying behind the scenes for this job in recent weeks. He’s held conversations with donors to understand where the Seminoles stand in the current NIL landscape and where the roster would need to be addressed in the transfer portal,” Nakos wrote Sunday.
Yet where does FSU stand?
“Whether Florida State has any interest in rehiring Fisher is unclear at this point, but he has done everything he can to position himself to be in the mix for this job,” Nakos added, while including that this time, Fisher would become less expensive to grab compared to his massive buyout from Texas A&M in 2023.
Other names sprouting including star ACC coach

Fisher's not the only name to monitor here, per Nakos.
Duke head coach Manny Diaz is a FSU alum and owns one Atlantic Coast Conference title, coming last season. Nakos revealed this telling nugget about Diaz's prospects here.
“Sources have told On3 that this is a job that Diaz wants, returning his alma mater to prominence,” Nakos said. “He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Seminoles under Bobby Bowden.”
Meanwhile, former Norvell assistant Kenny Dillingham rose as a another name to watch. Dillingham owns a 26-21 record as head coach with Arizona State. Nakos added Michigan tried courting him after the Sherrone Moore firing. FSU turned to Dillingham as offensive coordinator from 2020 to 2021.
