The New York Jets will be without rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.
According to NFL NetworkâÂÂs Ian Rapoport, the Jets will place Cooper on injured reserve after he sprained his ankle in the Jetsâ Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans. Cooper will have four weeks to recover before the Jets can bring him back. Rapoport also said Cooper should return soon.
Cooper suffered an injury during a 30-yard catch-and-run against Tennessee. He made an impact with his only catch before a defender rolled up on his right ankle during the play. X-rays came back negative, but additional tests revealed an injury that will keep him out for now.
At first, the Jets said Cooper was week-to-week. Head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned he could be back within four weeks. Ultimately, the team decided to place him on injured reserve before their Week 2 game against Green Bay.
Losing Cooper sets back the Jets offense, which is trying to build on a strong start. The team selected the rookie 30th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Indiana and anticipated he would play a big role in the passing game.
Cooper will miss at least four games, but his stint on injured reserve does not mean he will be out for the whole season. Rapoport said the team expects him to come back soon after he recovers from his ankle sprain.
For now, the Jets will count on their other wide receivers against Green Bay. They hope Cooper will be healthy and ready to return when he is eligible.
