The Winnipeg Jets are embroiled in preseason drama with Connor Hellebuyck at this time. Hellebuyck wants a trade away from Winnipeg and has not reported to training camp. As a result, the Jets recently suspended the former MVP goaltender.

This is a dramatic escalation ahead of the new season. Hellebuyck's relationship with Winnipeg seems irreparable at this time. But the Jets aren't going to let him go for nothing. This whole saga has had a rather big impact on the dressing room, as star winger Kyle Connor recently revealed.

“As a player, all you can do is kind of deal with what's in front of you. Obviously, the news is heartbreaking being a teammate of his for so long. It's tough, it feels like we had such a special group here and for whatever reason, I can't speak to the reason until we hear from the man. I’m not going to speculate on what it is, but I know that a lot of guys in that room that are heartbroken,” Connor said, via NHL.com.

Hellebuyck has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL for some time. As mentioned, he is a former league MVP, winning the Hart Trophy in 2024-25. He has also won the Vezina Trophy as the best goalie in the league on three occasions.

It does not appear as if the Jets or Hellebuyck want to blink first. This is a rather tense standoff, and it could drag on for a decent bit of time. While all that happens, Hellebuyck's teammates are preparing for the season ahead.
