The Chicago Bears looked incredible on Monday Night Football. Chicago dominated Seattle 34-17 in a blowout win on the road against the defending Super Bowl champions. The Bears looked much improved on defense after acquiring Jeffery Simmons in a blockbuster trade last week.
Simmons played quite well in his Bears debut. In fact, the splits when he was on and off the field show just how valuable he already is for Chicago.
According to Next Gen Stats, Chicago limited Seattle to just 3.0 yards per play when Simmons was on the field, per ESPN's Courtney Cronin. Once Simmons left the field, that average skyrocketed up to 13.3 yards per play.
The Bears also logged three sacks and an interception when Simmons was in play.
Simmons finished the game with six total tackles and one sack. Even when he wasn't getting to the ball, Simmons made an impact on the game.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson gave Simmons an excellent review after his debut.
“He's fit right in. You can feel his presence out there, whether it's during the play or even after,” Johnson said. “You can feel him talking smack, which I think elevates everyone. To come in there and have a share of the lead in tackles and a sack in his first game, his impact was profound.”
Article Continues BelowChicago looked dominant on both sides of the ball against Seattle in Week 8. They now look like a legit Super Bowl contender and have a roster to match those expectations. Chicago is well positioned at 6-2 and just behind Minnesota in the NFC North division standings. The Bears have a great chance to win the division if they can take care of business in their remaining divisional matchups.
In the meantime, Chicago needs to continue stacking wins to extend their three-game winning streak.
Next up for the Bears is a Week 9 home game against the Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.
