The Oklahoma City Thunder were hopeful to make a deep playoff push upon entering the 2026-27 regular season healthy, but the first week has not been kind to them. In the last few days, the team has been ravaged by injuries to their starting lineup/
In the last two days, the Thunder have lost both Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace to potentially season-ending injuries that could completely change the direction of their season.
During Sunday evening's contest against the LA Clippers, Cason Wallace left the first half after running into an Isaiah Jackson screen and going down. He immediately grabbed at his shoulder and was rushed back to the Thunder locker room.
With a little over a minute left in the game, Jalen Williams went up for a layup and came down awkwardly on top of his foot, suffering a gruesome looking fracture that was immediately recognized by everyone with a few of it as serious. Williams was stretchered off as he gave fans two thumbs up, but clearly dejected and processing what had just happened to him.
On Monday, the Thunder announced that both Williams and Wallace will undergo surgery to address their respective injuries, and there's a very real chance that Wallace will end up missing the remainder of the regular season with his injuries as well.
Oklahoma City has found small ways to honor Jalen Williams after his awful injury, the latest a giant Thunder “8” at the top of the Devon Tower downtown.
Williams jumped on Twitter after seeing the post and replied, “Throw a 22 on der too.” That, of course, is in honor of his teammate Cason Wallace, who is also looking at an extended absence.

Jalen Williams missed significant portions of the 2025-26 season as he dealt with hamstring strains, and was even forced out of Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals because of it. He finally was able to get healthy this summer, and said on a recent podcast that entering this season was the healthiest he's been in years.
Thunder GM Sam Presti said both teams will have their statuses updated following their respective surgeries.
